George, My Daughter's Invisible Friend

A True Tale of the Paranormal,

Clients ask me all the time if as kids we're able to see our spirit guides before we're conditioned by our familys and society that it's not normal to see spirits.  If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me this question I'd have ... well, a whole lot of money, that's for sure!  People will tell me when they were small they would play all the time with some nice man or nice woman or another child and they'd always feel very safe and secure with these "people" that no one else could ever see.

I always tell them the same thing ...

Oh, yes you can see your guides at an early age.  In fact, this is VERY common.  Ever hear of the concept of the "imaginary playmate" of a child???  In many cases those "imaginary" playmates are very real.  They are spirit guides, guardian angels, sometimes even departed loved ones whom the child may have never met while they were still alive.

I have a neat story  from my own family that proves the point perfectly.

My daughter is now 11.  When she was very little, from about 2 - 7 years old she would talk about a man named "George."  George would come into her room and play with her.  He would also teach her "how to get along with people and how to talk to people."  I found that intriguing and I'd try to spy on her.  I would sense a very loving, protective presence.  I didn't know if this was her angel or a spirit guide.

A few years went by and George was like a member of the family, often joining us for dinner.  When pressed for details, my daughter would ask him questions.  I was trying to figure out what he was, not who, but he would answer with such things as, "I once lead a lot of people," or, "many call me 'Father'", or "I was a politician."  I still had no idea, but figured at least i knew he was once human so he had to be one of her spirit guides since angels have never been in human form.

Then she went to school and was in kindergarten.  One day I got called to the school by her normally very calm  teacher who was frantic.  My daughter was extremely upset and was in the nurse's office crying her eyes out.  They didn't know why.  I came immediately and she told me through her tears that "George" must have just died because her teacher told her he was dead.  I immediately figured my daughter was talking about her spirit guide and she had probably tried to tell her teacher about him and they had had a misunderstanding.  Her teacher had unintentionally upset her.  She said that George had just been to see her the night before so he couldn't be dead.  She was begging me to confirm that George was still alive.  This is when I found out that when he would appear to her he appeared in a totally solid form, just like any other living person.  Until then, I had no idea he appeared in solid physical form to her.

So, I took her back to her classroom and there on the overhead slide projector was a painting of George Washington.  Well, I suddenly realized not only what George was, but WHO he was.  It was all I could to do not freak out in front of her entire class.  My daughter saw the picture and said, "Look, Mommy!  There's George!  There's my friend!"  The teacher only smiled.  I told her that my daughter had been having visitations with him for years and until now we never knew she meant an actual George, never mind the father of our country, as he is known to Americans.

Well, thank goodness she was open-minded!  She caught on and then told my child that although he is a spirit, he can still go visit whoever he wants and that she was very, very lucky to have a former president go visit her.  My child then understood and was no longer upset, but still wondered how she could see him if he was dead.

George ended up staying with my daughter for another two years.  He then predicted to her the passing of her grandmother,  my mother, and shortly after that the passing of my father. He told her the time had come that he had to help other kids out and that he was still being a "father" to many, but that he would always keep an eye on her and should she ever need him all she had to do was call his name.

Now when my daughter has trouble with her friends at school or a teacher, she will tell me about it.  I'll ask her if she wants me to talk to the teacher in question or perhaps call a parent, but she always says the same thing, "That's okay, Mommy.  I told George about it.  He told me how to handle them and the problem has been taken care of."

My husband is now convinced that our daughter will grow up to one day be the first female president of America!  Yet, he always claims to have no belief whatsoever in the paranormal, or my "weird witchy pooh crap."

My reply to that is always the same ~ "Whatever!"
